Pasalnya, kapasitas produksi, tempat penyimpanan unit motor dan suku cadang yang ada sekarang di Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta Utara, sudah tak mencukupi. Karena itu KMI akan memindahkannya ke kawasan Cibitung, Jawa Barat, secara bertahap mulai tahun depan.
“Kita akan pindah dari pabrik lama ke pabrik baru tahun depan,” papar Deputy Departement Head Sales & Promotion Departement PT Kawasaki Motor Indonesia (KMI) Dewi Septianti di sela-sela acara Media Gathering di Lembang, Bandung, Jawa Barat (8/11).
Pemindahan itu, dijelaskan Dewi, untuk memenuhi permintaan pasar yang terus meningkat. “Apalagi yang CKD, setiap tahunnya terus tinggi,†jelasnya.
Pabrik baru yang berdiri di atas lahan seluas 150.000 m2 punya kapasitas produksi 140 ribu/tahun. “Kapasitas CKD sekitar 5.000 unit dan untuk spare part warehouse ada di lahan seluas 10.000 m2. Beroperasi di Januari 2014.â€
Selain untuk merakit produk CKD, pabrik baru itu juga akan digunakan untuk memproduksi semua model motor bebek Kawasaki seperti EDGE, Athlete dan KSR.
